Wedding Day Tips for the Bride: Getting Ready Like a Pro
The morning of your wedding is a whole vibe – excitement, nerves, happy tears and all the pretty little details coming to life. It’s also the start of one of the most memorable days of your life. So, let’s make sure it goes as smoothly as your silk robe.
Here’s your go-to guide with all the best wedding day tips for getting ready, designed especially for brides who want to feel calm, collected and absolutely glowing. Plus, we’ve sprinkled in some practical reminders and a few things your future self will thank you for.
1. Start with a calm, curated space
Set the tone for the morning by getting ready in a space that feels peaceful, well-lit and clutter-free. Whether it's a luxe bridal suite, your family home, or a hired Airbnb, this is your space – so make it yours. Bring your playlist, light a candle (if your venue allows) and keep the vibes soft and calm. It’s not just about pretty photos – it’s about how you feel in the moment.
2. Your dress and veil need their moment
Hang your dress somewhere special – high up, out of the way and in good light so your photographer can capture all the details. Steam your gown the night before (or have a steamer on hand if you're travelling). The same goes for your veil and any other pieces like gloves, capelets or overskirts.
If your dress has tricky buttons, assign someone as your “dresser” to help – and maybe even rehearse it the day before. Those fiddly satin loops can be a full workout. A small crochet hook is a must for this.
3. Don’t forget your bouquet (and how to hold it)
Place your bouquet in water as soon as it’s delivered to keep it fresh. Dry it off with a towel right before photos and remember – it’s held low, not up under your chin. Think relaxed and natural, like you’re holding it just above your hip bones. when you're walking down the aisle it’s best to hold it slightly to your side so not of those intricate dress details are hidden.
4. Please eat (no seriously, eat)
The last thing you want is to feel faint or get a champagne buzz on an empty stomach. Have a tray of easy-to-eat, mess-free food ready: think fruit, croissants, muesli bars and something savoury. Hydration is key too, so sip water between bubbles.
And coffee counts... but don’t make it your only drink.
5. Pack (and actually use) your bridal emergency kit
This is your safety net – and trust us, it’s a must. Your emergency kit should include:
Fashion tape
Safety pins
Clear nail polish (for runs in tights or nails)
Bobby pins and hair ties
Panadol or Nurofen
Deodorant
Mints or gum
Straws (so you can sip without messing up your lippy)
Compact mirror
Mini perfume
Needle and thread (white and your dress colour)
Bandaids (hello, heels)
Give this kit to a bridesmaid or your coordinator to keep close – just knowing it’s there can be a huge stress relief.
6. Pad your timeline
Hair and makeup always takes longer than you think – not in a bad way, just in a “wow time flew” kind of way. Build in extra time between glam, getting dressed and photos. If your photographer arrives at 11am, aim to have hair and makeup done by 10:30am so you’ve got breathing room for touch-ups, toasts and the moment it all starts to feel real. Always coordinate with your hair stylist to schedule you in before your maids, you don’t want to be rushed through hair & make up.
7. Have your crew on the same page
Whether you’ve got one bridesmaid or six, make sure they know the run sheet. Let them know who’s doing what, when they need to be dressed and where to be for photos. It avoids the frantic “has anyone seen the shoes?” energy we all don’twant.
8. Soak it all in
Lastly, remember to take a quiet moment for yourself – before everything kicks off. Look in the mirror. Breathe. Take it all in. You’ve dreamt about this moment and it’s finally here.
