What to do if the weather plays havoc on your Wedding Day

We all know our Australian weather can be unpredictable, so whether your wedding date is in July or December, there is always a possibility that the westerly winds may blow and the skies may open at some point.

You will still have an amazing day regardless of the weather, and a little forward planning will mean you are ready for whatever Mother Nature throws at you!

While it may seem disheartening at first, a little rain or wind doesn't have to put a damper on your special day. In fact, embracing the weather can create unique and memorable moments. Read on to explore some tips and ideas to help you make the most out of a rainy wedding day.

Embrace It!

Instead of letting the weather ruin your mood, embrace it and see it as a beautiful and romantic element. Rain can create a dreamy and ethereal atmosphere, and it can make for stunning photographs. Grab an umbrella or some colourful rain boots and have fun capturing magical moments under the raindrops. The resulting images will be one-of-a-kind and filled with romance. Our August winds although fierce at times they’ll guarantee your floaty dress will be the star in those hero shots. just take a look at Sarah and Ruston images above. The wind on their wedding day was horrific but just LOOK at those shots of her gown!!!!

Plan for a Plan B

If you had envisioned an outdoor wedding ceremony or reception, it's essential to have a backup plan in case of inclement weather. Whether it's renting a tent or securing an indoor venue, having an alternative location ensures that you and your guests can stay dry and comfortable. Discuss the backup plan with your wedding planner or venue coordinator in advance who will already have their own list of suggestions too, so everyone is on the same page and prepared for any weather surprises. The most important thing to remember is when choosing your venue is to ensure that it can cater for your guest numbers for all weather plans.

Have Wedding Umbrellas & Warm Wraps

Show your thoughtfulness by providing umbrellas or rain ponchos for your guests. Not only will they appreciate the gesture, but it will also keep everyone dry and happy. Choose umbrellas and throws that match your wedding colour scheme or opt for transparent ones to add a touch of elegance. These practical accessories can also double as cute props for your wedding photos. Oh and don’t forget those beautiful paper fans for keeping your guests cool during your summer weddings.

Opt for Indoor Photo Locations

If the rain is persistent and you can't have outdoor photoshoots, don't worry! Explore indoor locations that offer a picturesque backdrop for your wedding portraits. Grand hotel lobbies, art galleries, or historic buildings can provide a stunning and unique setting for your photographs. Your photographer will know the best spots in your area, so trust their expertise and let them capture beautiful moments indoors.

Create Cosy and Intimate Spaces

If your wedding activities are taking place outdoors, such as a cocktail hour or lounge area, make sure to create cosy and intimate spaces that protect your guests from the rain. Rent stylish tents, set up canopies, or provide outdoor heaters to keep everyone warm and comfortable. Add some soft lighting, comfortable seating, and decorative elements to transform the space into a cosy oasis.

Communicate with Suppliers and Guests

It's crucial to keep open lines of communication with your wedding suppliers, or if you’ve hired an on-the-day coordinator or planner, have them do this for you with a wet weather back up plan, in case of rain.

Discuss backup plans and logistics to ensure everyone is prepared for any weather changes. Additionally, keep your guests informed about the potential for rain and any changes in the schedule. Clear communication will alleviate any concerns and allow everyone to enjoy the day without stress.

Remember, weather extremes on your wedding day can be seen as a symbol of luck, cleansing, and new beginnings. With a positive mindset, a backup plan, and some creative thinking, your rainy wedding day can be just as magical and memorable as you envisioned, if not more so. So, dance in the rain, let your dress float in the wind, capture the beauty of the moment, and celebrate the love that brought you together, come rain or shine.

Until next time
